Family-owned Detroit Business Delivers Thousands of Meals, PPE and Cleaning Supplies to Hardest-hit in Detroit
Detroit, Mich. - Hundreds of thousands of donations of food, personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies, flowed into Detroit Wednesday morning, and Renaissance Global Logistics (RGL) stood ready to receive the deliveries and ship them all over a city hard-hit by the coronavirus outbreak.
John James, President and CEO of the Detroit-based logistics company, said he didn’t think twice before donating his company’s space and resources to help and that it’s part of his family’s “legacy of service to Detroit.”
“I was raised to believe that when God gives you blessings, you have an obligation--not an option-- to use those blessings to help those in need,” said James. "We basically adapted our knowledge of global automotive supply chain logistics and our Detroit-based warehousing and distribution resources to meet a critical need right here at home! I’m grateful to my team members for their efforts, but we are just one part of a larger community that’s bringing glory to God through these donations. I want to thank also Operation Blessing, Mercury One, Mayor Mike Duggan, and state Representative Karen Whitsett for the crucial roles they played getting these much-needed supplies to Detroit.”
Thousands of meals and units of personal protective equipment (PPE) and cleaning supplies were collected by humanitarian organizations, Mercury One and Operation Blessing, from all over the country to help ease the COVID crisis in Detroit after Rep. Whitsett brought national attention to the dire situation in Detroit. The mayor’s office aided in coordinating recipients for the donations.
Meals were delivered by RGL to churches and other community organizations distributing meals to needy families and seniors. PPE and cleaning supplies will be trucked to facilities with frontline workers in need of equipment and to prisons working to contain spread of the virus.
RGL is part of James Group (JG), a family-owned business headquartered in Detroit. JG and its affiliates have a decades-long commitment to giving back to their Detroit community by supporting families, disadvantaged children and minority, woman and veteran-owned businesses.
